Darby Scott is an American designer whose namesake brand is noted for impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. Darby Scott's clothing, handbag, and jewelry collections have continued to evolve and elevate her position within the global fashion conversation, garnering her a very diverse following including Madonna, Queen Noor, Rose Marie Bravo and Bette Midler.
Working with two seamstresses, Scott launched her first collection of evening and cocktail dresses in 1995. Her collection immediately attracted top retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Scott took a necessary hiatus following the tragic death of her husband in 1998. With two children to raise alone and a demanding schedule nurturing an emerging business, she re-strategized her brand's focus and returned to the fashion world with a collection of exotic skin handbags, putting her clothing collection on hold. Her vision for the handbag collection in combining rich skins and opulent fabrics with semi-precious stones, natural shell, horn, bone and wood offered a unique perspective. Darby subsequently broadened the handbag aesthetic to include elegant jewelry, both fine and fashion. This new jewelry and handbag collection launched in early 2000, again immediately attracting top retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Darby, motivated by a desire to show her luxurious clothing alongside her own handbags and jewelry, made a return to designing ready-to-wear in late 2010.
Unlike multi-branded and omni-channel e-tailers who present vast arrays of products, darbyscott.com offers the ease of online shopping and the refined taste and edit of a specialty boutique. The Darby Scott site aims to be a sea of calm presenting an exquisitely curated collection of unique women's separates, handbags and jewelry (fine and fashion) and scarves. It is both the edit and uniqueness of products not seen everywhere that make the online boutique so enticing. Darby Scott Men's products, including attaches, wallets, belts and furnishings, launched September 2016.
A native New Englander, Scott grew up in Harvard, Massachusetts and received her degree from Smith College. Darby Scott moved to New York City in 1984 to pursue her passion for design. Her early career was spent in various merchandising and design positions at both US and international fashion houses including Karl Lagerfeld (Bidermann, U.S.A.) and Perry Ellis. Prior to founding her own company, Scott was Vice President of Women’s Merchandising and Design for the North American division of Aquascutum London.
Darby recently returned to New England. Her new headquarters, located just 35 miles north of Boston, boasts a fantastically modern design and photography studio inside an historic textile mill complex that dates back to the 1850s.
Darby Scott only uses select center cuts of exotic skins from around the globe, such as alligator, lizard, ostrich, stingray and python. We employ old world techniques to bring out the highest possible luster and to accentuate the natural markings of each skin.
Hours of intense workmanship go into each fitting and clasp. The jewelry-inspired fittings feature constellations of semi-precious stones and minerals from India, Asia, South America and Africa. Graceful carvings reveal the essence of natural woods, shell and bone.
Every bag is bench-made by skilled craftsmen individually perfecting each piece and highlighting the inherent beauty of the materials.
There are many styles in the Darby Scott Collection that can be produced in a variety of skin types and colors. If you see a style you like, but prefer to have it in another color or skin please contact us about placing a special order.

Caring for your Darby Scott so it will last for generations.
Our expert craftsmen take care to choose only the finest grade skins, hides and materials in the making of our unique luxury items. Occasional irregularities in the markings of the skins are often the natural characteristics of the animal and should never be considered imperfections.
All of our luxury goods, whether they are made from exotic skin, calf leather, silk or other fabric, should be protected from rain, humidity and cosmetic products as they can become discolored or permanently stained. If your bag gets wet, pat gently with a cloth and allow it to dry at room temperature away from direct sources of heat and light. Always store your bag in the flannel sack provided and keep it in a cool dry place. Never apply over the counter cleaning creams or polishing products of any kind.
Darby Scott manufactures all exotic skin bags in compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
To ensure that your Darby Scott exotic skin handbag remains in excellent condition for years to come, please keep it protected from rain and excessive humidity, heat or dryness.
The skin will buckle and stain dramatically if exposed to water. If your bag does get wet, pat it gently with a soft cloth and allow to air-dry naturally away from any source of heat. Never wipe your bag dry or use cleaning products of any kind.
Just as acidity in beauty products and lotions will destroy the luster of real pearls, so too will they damage your exotic skin accessory.
Make sure to keep your handbag out of direct sunlight, as the skin color may fade or yellow.
In order to preserve the natural characteristics and retain the softness, our leather pieces are not waterproofed. Protect your leather bag from rain and excessive humidity, heat or dryness. If it becomes wet, pat dry immediately with a cloth and let air-dry away from any direct source of heat.
To retain the luxurious look and feel of your silk handbag, avoid exposing it to water and oils of any kind, as they will stain the fabric. If it becomes wet, pat dry immediately with a cloth and let air-dry away from any direct source of heat.
Make sure to keep your handbag out of direct sunlight, as the color may fade.
