Scott took a necessary hiatus following the tragic death of her husband in 1998. With two children to raise alone and a demanding schedule nurturing an emerging business, she re-strategized her brand's focus and returned to the fashion world with a collection of exotic skin handbags, putting her clothing collection on hold. Her unique vision for the handbag collection in combining rich skins and opulent fabrics with semi-precious stones, natural shell, horn, bone and wood helped propel the success of the brand. Darby subsequently broadened the offerings to include elegant jewelry, both fine and fashion. The handbag collection launched in early 2000, again immediately attracting top retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue. The jewelry collection launched in 2007.  Darby, motivated by a desire to show her luxurious clothing again alongside her own handbags and jewelry, made a return to designing ready-to-wear in late 2010.
